MOWER COUNTY GENEALOGY

Biographical Sketch of

George Duffy

George Duffy came to Austin with his widowed mother when a boy of thirteen years. His father had settled in Mower County at an early day, carrying on farming about six miles from this city. In 1876 Mr. Duffy engaged in the livery business, but this was shortly afterward abandoned when he established the basis of his present successful implement business. At that time the hand-binding harvester was a wonder in its day. Then came the wire self-binder, and later the modern twine-binding machine.

During his twenty-five years of active experience in the sale of agricultural implements, farm machinery, etc., Mr. Duffy has become thoroughly posted as to the best standard grades, and he has built up a large trade in this line, covering a territory within a radius of twelve miles of Austin in all directions. He handles the Milwaukee and Buckey binders and mowers, Geir thrashers and engines, Jackson wagons, H.A. Muckle Manufacturing Company's buggies and carriages. A recent consignment of a car load of the later has found ready sale.
