Biographical Sketch of

S.D. Catherwood

S.D. Catherwood, county attorney, was born in Sumner, Freeborn County, Minn. November 12, 1859. When twelve years of age his parents came to Austin. After attending the public schools he entered the preparatory department of the State University, graduating from that institution in 1883. For some time afterward Mr. Catherwood was engaged in civil engineering in Iowa and Minnesota. He studied law with W.E. Hale, of Minneapolis, and with Hubbard, Clark, and Dawley, of Cedar Rapids.

He was admitted to the bar in 1887, passing a creditable examination before Judge Farmer, at Albert Lea. He has since carried on a successful law practice in Austin, ranking among the foremost members of the county bar. Mr. Catherwood is now county attorney for Mower County, having been elected to that office in 1892, by the majority which is accorded to any candidate on the republican ticket. He has been once re-elected to the office without opposition and was recently nominated by acclamation for another term. Mr. Catherwood in one of the hardest workers in the profession and his unremitting study and great energy have placed him among the well known lawyers of ability in southern Minnesota.
